Hey, unrelated question: do I remember correctly that you have a battery box with an inverter that puts out 110V? And if so, is there any chance of your bringing it to the Boulder Dash? The reason I ask is that I'm planning to resuscitate my handheld barcode reader for scanning bib numbers at the start, but if I can't, then my backup plan is to grab a USB barcode reader from work and have a laptop running at the start (weather permitting), but the spare laptop that I have probably does not have battery life adequate for the start window. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, the batteries the club owns are traveling with the club's epunch kits and neither kit is at my house currently. And I don't think either person that now has the kits is coming to the Boulder Dash or that I will be anywhere near them in the next couple of days. I'm also not sure if you meant the battery or the car inverters. The car inverters are also traveling with the epunch kits since we use those as backup if the batteries don't last.

But, I have a car adapter for my laptop so if you want, I can bring that and you could use my laptop and plug it into a nearby car. Don't know if you'd have to load a driver or software or something ahead of time but let me know if you want to try.

Yeah, unfortunately, we can't get a car to the start (on Day 1, at least, not sure about Day 2). I was hoping for the totable battery box.

Might be able to get away with multiple computers, switch when the battery runs down, and concatenate the files afterwards (trivial operation). The USB scanner just acts like a keyboard, so you open Notepad or something and the bib numbers just get popped into a text file. I'm also going to check with Charlie, wh I think just got a new netbook that might have long battery life (though I don't know how much juice the scanner takes).

What kind of laptop? You might ask some folks to bring charged batteries, too, instead of whole laptops. What's the start window?

I got the barcode scanner PDA running again, so we're all set.
