On the Men's Elite course? Even given unlimited time to plan the optimal route and study the terrain in advance, that's a blazing fast time. Saturday's campus sprint ought to suit you.

Pretty sure he raced it as a race.

Even if you do study route choices before hand, I don't think you'd gain much of an advantage.

yes the mens elite.
I ran the same one in 2006, but Nick caught me by 1 minute then, and I don't really remember much after control 6.
I did look over the course 4 or 5 times the night before though, and I did definitely run it as a tempo/race, although in 2006 I remember being much more tired at the finish.
