Not sure if you're a swimmer, but I've always found the pool to be great for loosening up. Doesn't take much - I remember being so sore after a weekend of an indoor soccer tournament that I was barely walking and any lower body work was out of the question. My coach handed me a pull buoy and told me to just take it easy and work arms that day. About halfway through the workout, all the core work (natural rotation of swimming freestyle) loosened me up enough to add some gentle kick, and by the time I got out I was 100% better. I would imagine even some easy aqua jogging might help.

If, of course, you can find the time! Good luck with that.

What are you majoring in?

Ma'am, I'm in Engineering Management. The systems department is extremely overloaded but I think that there will be a sizable amount of cadets who decide to change majors sometime next year. They really did a good job selling it as the emerging field in the world, and right now West Point is the best Undergrad program for it. This semester is the first introduction to Systems Engineering and "Systems thinking", so it may make up alot of folk's minds to change to an easier or slightly different major.

I got rid of most of the problem by stretching before I ran the concurrent runs, and then really stretched alot over this weekend. Of course today's run turned icy and my legs may or may not feel worse in the morning. If it does, I will hit the pool after lunch tomorrow. I appreciate the advice. Also, the bigger problem is not that muscles are sore, but that my body has put on protective layers of fat like a true Wisconsinite. The delta from before Thanksgiving to after Christmas was 12 lbs! (According to the Wii Fit that my sister was given as a present) I need to drop that weight and maybe I'll feel better; despite being infinitely colder.

Wow, that's impressive protection! ;-)

That said, eating well is also key - I tried an Adkins-ish take once by cutting carbs and discovered that does not work well for me with running. Never again...

En Mgt...huh, not one I know a whole lot about. Interesting. Bottom line - do something you love, so come firstie year when you want to be out having fun instead of working on your capstone project, at least you'll enjoy the suck. It's great to finally get to take classes in your major, that's for sure.
