Unfortunately the ski-O we planned to offer this Sunday (2/21)can't be held. Ed checked out the trails and the ice on the lake this afternoon. Although we received at least six inches of snow this week, the base was gone and the warm temperatures have melted much of the new snow.

When we finally get to hold the event next winter, it should be a blast! Sorry it didn't work out this winter but look for it again on the January 2011 schedule.

What's going on here? O-meets in DC area cancelled because of snow, ski-o meets in ON and NH cancelled because of lack of snow.
What's next? A canoe-O meet cancelled because a lake is dry? That's probably already happened in Australia.

US Canoe-O Nationals several years ago had sudden unexpectedly low water levels, and a canoe-O meet directed by lizk had a similar fate, where large expanses of lake had turned into mud flats even though it was raining. (I was setting courses both times, and both times it was due to manipulation of impoundment structures upstream.)

In Australia whitewater events are called in a hurry because there is water in the river.

Except for the Avon Descent, which is slated for the first weekend in August whether there's water or not. Sometimes you spend more time on the first day walking than paddling, but that's considered part of the "fun".
