Looks like Brian May had another really fine result in the Birkie today--way to go Brian!

But he barely won family bragging rights -- he was 32nd for the men, Abby was 33rd for the women. Two fine performances! Results

Thanks for the nice comments. I had a decent ski, but it could have gone a bit better - losing a pole 3 seconds into a ski race is never a good thing! (Details in my training diary if you are curious). Abbi was gloating as we left the Birkie because the early results had her in 32nd and me in 33rd ... but the final results are a bit more in my favor :-).

I wonder what caused that revision in the results. Did they realize that one of the people who beat Brian was Female, not Male? That would explain it...
(Something similar caused a family-tie in the Billygoat results last year, as my 12th overall was 11th male... :)

Oh, but then I see Peter has posted the link, so I can easily check myself. And nope, I surmised wrong - Brian did beat the the top woman - by a margin of 1 second/km... 17 places back! Big race...

Changes in results come from a couple things ...
i) Chips that don't register properly on the finish mat (requires manual/backup timing).
ii) Fast skiers in late waves (there are 11 waves, with a 10 minute gap between waves).
iii) The occasional bozo who takes the bus to Hayward and then skis up Main Street.
The early results had a wave-2 skier in 7th place overall, but this was some sort of "timing error".
