10 minutes to mass start. About 60 runners.
Apr 21, 2010 7:57 PM #
runit:
did some guy miss cp #23 and go straight to finish?
Apr 22, 2010 6:06 AM #
Jagge:
No. He just had less accurate gps. If you click the square in front if is initials at top right youl'll see the whole route and see he "missed" same way lots of other controls too.

Note, event organizers does not have any gps devices or anything for this. Runners who like to be tracked use their own equipment. Some have more and some less accurate gps units and cell phones. And some bother to recharge batteries, some not.

loefaas:
What kind of units are supported? For example my htc magic? And is still in testing or can other use it for tracking?
Apr 23, 2010 12:35 PM #
jankoc:
@loefaas: I've made a webapp which should support HTC magic coupled to the Routegadget tracking (I've used it on my HTC G1). That is still in testing, though, and requires that your screen is on during tracking. I can send you info if you are interested.
Apr 23, 2010 6:52 PM #
Jagge:
I think I have also python app for win mobile os phones. Regular RG can handle live tracking, so anyone can set up sessions like that and it costs nothing if you already have data plan.

Note, the app for S60 Nokias is also able to post training sessions with track directly to your Attackpoint log, even if live tracking is not used at all. Reall easy way to log trainings, no need to download data from gps, no need to have laptop.

Starting again. Runners seem to be warming up.
This is 100th Yökuppi event.

Summer break is almost over. 3 hours to go.

Live gps tracking as usual. And tonight Terkkis may send some (live?) video, stream/clips can be seen at http://qik.com/terkelsen

Yökuppi 5 begins now.
Sep 8, 2010 6:08 PM #
eddie:
Nice. Only 4 runners with tracking tonight?
Sep 8, 2010 6:15 PM #
Jagge:
No idea as usual. We just wait and see who show up. We have list of participants, no start list (they start basicly when they want), and I can only guess who did take tracking equipment this time. Tracking is done voluntary basis, so anyone who has equipment will be tracked if he/she wants, but organizer has no any equipment, so if no-one shows up there is no-one. JSu (AP Shrek) is first timer tonight. Also, it up to runner what kind of equipment he/she uses, so accuracy and realibility can be anyting between exellend or poor. True hobby O tracking :)

I messed up a bit with map calibration at first, so KLe's (AP Terkelsen) first minutes got lost. Sorry for that :(

Hopefully we will get online start times, results and maybe some intermediate times too in near future. I have developed simple way to do it but we are kind out of hardware (=cell phones) at the moment.
Sep 8, 2010 6:22 PM #
eddie:
Cool. Looks like Shrek has vaporized on the way to #1. It is actually dark there?
Sep 8, 2010 6:23 PM #
Jagge:
Pitch black in Helsinki at the moment, must be even darker in Lahti.
Sep 8, 2010 6:25 PM #
Jagge:
HIrppa and TAh (Timo Ahvenainen who often wins) are together. Hirppa often starts bit before Timo and they quite often end up together and almost always end up doing big mstake together. Let's see what happens tonight.

Kle forgot his equipment on top of hs car and it got lost on highway, so he is uisng his secondary equipment. Looks like BT connection (I guess) isn't that good and it breaks every now and then. Cheap chinese $30 bt gps...
Sep 8, 2010 6:26 PM #
eddie:
Shouldn't it be lighter there? We haven't reached the equinox yet. Still, a few km won't make much difference. I'm still in summer mode...
Sep 8, 2010 6:28 PM #
eddie:
Will be interesting to see this route to 7. I was looking at waay right when KLe took that track up the middle.
Sep 8, 2010 6:32 PM #
Jagge:
Helsinki 5 minutes ago:
08.09.2010 - Share on Ovi

Shrek is running shorter B course, can maybe be seen somehow, very dim.

Jagge:
Will be interesting to see this route to 7

If you havent used it yeat, just Uuse "strart line" & "split line" tools to see how much time each route choice takes.
Sep 8, 2010 6:36 PM #
eddie:
Oh, I see it now.
Looks like Hirppa and Timo have paralleled W of 7 in that reentrant.
Sep 8, 2010 6:39 PM #
Jagge:
Hirppa has better gps if he ses his bt gps as I believe, if they are together better count on Hirppa's dot.
Sep 8, 2010 6:46 PM #
Jagge:
Usually you can draw start line just after start triangle to see how they are doing and who is leading and how much, but now I messed Terleksen's start :(
Sep 8, 2010 6:50 PM #
eddie:
He seems to be doing very well indeed.
Sep 8, 2010 6:51 PM #
Jagge:
I guess big mistake going on at #8 :)

BTW, click squares top right in front of initials to see whole route and not just last 2 minutes.
Sep 8, 2010 7:02 PM #
eddie:
yep, I have the routes up.
Sep 8, 2010 7:09 PM #
Jagge:
IMHO Shrek is doing really fine for a novice with home made headlamp:
Sep 8, 2010 7:19 PM #
Jagge:
Timo A was fastest tracked A course runner, but he must have lost about 10 mintes to the actual winner (most likely J. Bäckman).

KLe's gps track straight from cell phone.
Sep 8, 2010 7:47 PM #
Shrek:
Thanks Jagge for the kind words. I was gonna give up after CP1, but I guess it's natural to be a bit lost on the first nigh CP for a year...And the first time ever on an "adult" track. A couple of C-tracks before this... Also, on CP1 my Magicshine was loosing contact (yup - I wasn't using my jhome made lamp this time). I must have lost 5-10min trying to first find the control, then get a grip of myself (not going home that is) and then fixing the connection...
And no, there wasn't anything wrong with GPS 1-3, I turned it of 'cause I really was that close to DNF...But then things got brighter and despite the awful terrain I started to enjoy it. Damn that was fun. I got a bit comfort when I saw Hirppa looking for the same CP on south-east corner. They looked just as lost as I...
Sep 8, 2010 8:04 PM #
Hirppa:
Again I gave the tracking audience some amusement. And as Jagge said, again with Assu (TAh). BTW, if there's somewhere a poll for the "worst night-o terrain ever", I'll have one candidate...

A.Le Coq:
Results
Splits

A couple of Terkelsen videos

Ten minites to start.

Tracking as usual A and B course:
http://www.yokuppi.net/tracker/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi?...

Bluetooth device scanning based online start/finish/result page:
http://www.yokuppi.net/online/oresultblues.cgi

This is first attempt to use this system and I don't think they will be able to register many bt devices. So we might see results for hex codes instead of actual person names.
Sep 15, 2010 5:41 PM #
Hirppa:
I'm at the event site and not running myself. Tracking and results online seem to work. Weather is the best that it can be in night-o: raining as hard as it can.
I think I put all the names to online results so no hex-codes, hopefully.
Sep 16, 2010 9:36 AM #
Jagge:
The experimental online result system was quite promising. The difference between bluetooth and Emit timing was about what we expected. Tuxi's time differs most, 9 seconds.

One cell phone was used as combined start/finish unit. First it was on the ground by start punch unit. And later it was taped to the leg of the finish unit's stand like this:

30 minutes to start (mass start). I'll post map soon.

And as usual:

eddie:
Whoa. Middle of this course looks pretty tough. Especially at night. In the rain.
Sep 22, 2010 7:50 PM #
A.Le Coq:
Did not rain. Very nice night-o weather (+8 C, clear). And enough tough terrain and course :)
Sep 22, 2010 8:52 PM #
eddie:
Oh, the rain was last week.
Sep 29, 2010 3:54 PM #
Jagge:
45 minutes to start. Start in groups with forking. Online bluetooth timing with one online control (central control of the forking, so we should get several intermediate times). Let's see how it works.
Sep 29, 2010 4:40 PM #
eddie:
Woohoo!! Bring it!
Sep 29, 2010 5:36 PM #
eddie:
Quite a group there on the last common set. Will it be an all-out sprint at the finish? How many finish punches are there? :)
Sep 29, 2010 5:43 PM #
Jagge:
Funny they all happenned to meet there anfter all those detours.

Blues splits didn't show at first, but I got it working. They dousn't tell much not for those loops with different length.
Sep 29, 2010 5:48 PM #
Jagge:
Jögge, wrong direction!
Sep 29, 2010 7:11 PM #
Hirppa:
It seems that this time it worked again. I tried to promote it as best as I could but for some it seems to be a big thing to get their bt-phone to the forest. But 11 online results is a good number for third time.
It was a brilliant terrain for night-o. One guy is just too fast at the moment...
And btw, this time bt-results were 2-3 seconds longer than official ones.
Oct 6, 2010 4:47 PM #
Jagge:
And starting again. As usual,
gps tracking is here
abd bluetooth device scanning based online results here
Nov 3, 2010 4:03 PM #

Yökuppi final starting right now. 13 km course with mass start. It's raining, cold and dark.

Glad I'm watching from indoors :)
