Anti-tapering? What is that if you don't mind me asking...

I found some reference to it. If Tapering is having a gradually lighter workload in front of an event like a race, anti-tapering is doing the opposite.

What I was unable to determine is if you anti-taper after a race to get back to your normal load (ie - have some recovery time), or if you anti-taper before the race so that when you get to the race your body is relieved that it is only 7km...-)

Yes, I usually taper before a big race, by reducing mileage (by 33% before a shorter race, and over 50% before a marathon), and doing some final "tune-up" intervals (shorter, with more rest).

Well, since the US Champs are the final weekend of the 1000 Days, that hasn't been an option, so, rather than dwelling on not being properly rested for the weekend, I'm just trying my best each day and (jokingly) calling it an "anti-taper". This week's training total will probably be my highest, without the assistance of a Rogaine.

The good thing about orienteering is that slowing down a little as my body wears out can produce a net benefit, since I can navigate better at the slower speed. So far, my best races were Wednesday, followed by Thursday.
