Hey Matt!

I know what you mean about the meal times. My first term at Oxford, I felt like my day revolved around the three hall meals - breakfast, lunch, and supper/formal. The meals tended to be big and I didn't eat anything in between, so basically I was always either really full or starving. But I got tired of this, got myself a mini fridge, and started eating small meals all day instead of a few huge ones. This helped me feel better.

If you can manage it, one of the best times to do a short (30-40 minute) easy run is in the morning, right when you get up. Before you even eat breakfast, go out for the run. This helps you wake up, is good for burning fat, and also makes you feel that you have more time in the day because from then on you can focus on other things (like work).

Hey Kat,

While I was down in Oxford I did something similar to what you describe, I'm always hungry so lots of small meals suits me. On one hand being at home is great as I get good healthy meals cooked for me but there is no flexibility. Early mornings is a really good idea (I will have to borrow some of your motivation though!!), I'm also playing with the idea of running straight after I get home from work on my bike, at worst it will be good preparation if I ever decide to do triathalon!

To be honest I'm just not focused enough in what I want to acheive out of my training at the moment and while I'm probably maintaining a certain amount of fitness I'm certainly not gaining any, I need to sit down and set some targets I think.

Well done in your cross country race by the way, sounds like a good one generally.
