Jon Eaton of West Cumberland OC, England, has created a set of orienteering extensions (i.e. all the ISOM, ISSOM and ISMBOM symbols, colours etc) for use with Inkscape; a free, multi-platform vector based drawing programme.

Have a look via nopesport.com:

Excellent: Looking forward to test driving it!
Here's hoping the interface is a tad more user friendly too!

Very interesting. Glad to see there is more than one option for drawing O-maps.
It should be mentioned that OCAD version 6 is free also. Many great orienteering maps were developed in OCAD-6 and it still works well today.
The Junior Mapper's Guide recommends free software and free data sources for the beginning map maker.

Nice! I'll have to check this out. I've been using Inkscape for a few years now, so the learning curve may not be so steep. I seem to get tripped up in OCAD sometimes because I don't use it all that often.

You are my hero. I have always thought about if purple pen was going to make a free ocad drawing, so this is something im going to download right away.
