Discussion: US Team Trials dates

Hi - does anyone know if the US Team Trials dates are set in stone?

The reason I ask is that for some reason they're a bit earlier than usual. Not the end of the world, but a bit unusual.

More importantly, however, they appear to conflict with the 2007 Nordic Championships in/on Bornholm, Denmark.

http://www.noc2007.dk

I have previously run in the Nordic Championships, and they are a real blast.... They should/will be WRE listed as well, so it would be a great opportunity to collect some points. There typically are not any qualification races, so this is a chance to run against the big guns in an international championship final.

Finally (and this is the best part for those nations trod upon by recent policy proposals at the IOF) we are allowed to send teams of up to 6 men and 6 women, so participation is relatively open. Note that Nordic countries will be sending 10 men and 10 women - so this competition is felt to be more difficult to win than the World Championships....

Anyway, it would be a shame for your overseas athletes to have to not only travel to USA for the Trials, but also have to miss what will arguably be one of the top competitions of the year. Any chance on moving the Trials dates?

And when at the US Team Trials next year..... a trip to nearby Hell is a must.

Today is the annual 100km Dances with Dirt trail relay (in Hell) and our team couldn't take part this year so I missed my annual trip to Hell (and back).

the Team Trials are also on the same date as my last rowing race... and I am pretty sure my coach would KILL me if I told her I had to miss the most important race of the year...

I wouldn't mind a change either as they are currently scheduled during my finals. But I'll do what I have to do either way, so I am not complaining. It is impossible to schedule an event without there being conflicts for some people. Would a change of date accomodate more people though?

If a change in the date is desired by a significant number of people, get your act together, contact Allan Newman and Mark Voit, and see what can be done. WRE applications are due at the end of the month.

It sounds like there are significant conflicts. I wouldn't mind seeing the trials happen one week earlier or later. I haven't talked with the organizers, so I have no idea whether this would be hard or easy for them. There will be a 3-day A meet and, rumor has it, a possible WRE in my neck of the woods (but North of the border) on May 19-21, so I (and probably a few Canadians who like to hit all the best races) would be pretty disappointed if the trials were moved to then.

I have some basic Trials info posted. The online entry will be open as soon as the Raleigh event is over, or possibly earlier.

Just a heads up If you change them they will probably have to be a week later as West Point has an a-meet the weekend before i think.

The 2007 US Team Trials dates are set and cannot be changed.

Note that there is a significant change from info that circulated before—there will be a full course/class structure offered, but with a twist.

Info is also available here: http://www.wyattriley.com/Trials/2007Trials.htm This is mostly about the Trials portion of the event. Vlad's page has more about the event itself, and is likely more up to date than the link I have posted here.

The dates were debated and settled long ago - we tend to settle on A-event & Team Trials dates 6-18 months in advance. So if you're thinking about 2008, and you have conflicting weekends you want to make sure we avoid, you can let us know now...

Note that Tundra/Desert (four posts above this one) woke up a thread from September 2006. The date change questions are not recent and do not need to be responded to, I guess (though the conflicts are still there).
