How big are the mountains - or rather what is the elevation gain? I'd always imagined Western Oz to be fairly flat. Mind you in >30C, an anthill might seem big! Glad you are having fun!

Very flat....except for a few blimps in the landscape. The Stirling Ranges rise to 1080 m (the tallest) from pretty close to sea level so elevation gain is comparable to the foothills of the Rockies (500-700m). There are about 8 decent sized peaks to be climbed down there. The tall ones have rocky crags on top and make for some interesting scrambling.

So kind of like Scotland - I think Ben Nevis is 1344m, pretty well from sea level. People have pushed things like pianos up it.... But it does have a side that is all cliffs with lots of rock routes, many of which are moderate.
