A few people here use Ór so this is to let you know that there is a new version available. You should not notice many differences from 3.2.1. The highlights are:

* Added log4j for logging.
* Redesigned the SPORTident code.
* Read Start Times is more robust so you will be able to read the start box successfully.
* You can enter a Federation ID when adding a competitor. This will appear in the csv results file.
* Fixed up the Help as it had fallen a bit behind.

To upgrade, just launch Ór while connected to the internet. I suggest doing this a couple of times, followed by once when not connected. This is because Java seems to have caused some problems after previous upgrades.

Does the new version read SI6* sticks (with 8-digit codes)?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that. I think it does. I don't have a v6* card to test but there is an option in SIConfig to make a V6 card download in a way that (I think) looks like a v6* and that works. If anyone has a v6* card, I'd appreciate if they could test it for me.

I have the card, and when I can connect with somebody who has the meet equipment, I'll arrange for a test.

Problem running. Was able to load 3.3 and it ran. Shut it down and tried again: "Unable to launch the application" error message, many times with and without internet connection.

Went to Help on .ie site and updated Java to Version 6 Update 23, and removed all previous versions. Same message.

George,

Click the Details button, select the Wrapped Exception tab and send me the contents.

Is this a good link for a description of the features of Ór?:

And then click on "Downloads" to go to the Download page?

Yes.

There is an aspect of Ór that is worth pointing out - when a card is downloaded Ór writes the punch data into a CSV file called results.csv, one record per card.

So if you have a Rogaine, Adventure Race or non-standard O event then you can import the punch data into a spreadsheet (or PHP/python script) to do whatever results calculation you like.

Sportident have just released a beta version of something similar but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.

We used Ór for the first time at a small event last weekend. Very simple to learn thanks to the simulator, efficient to use for a one man operation, and the slave results screen is a bonus.

Only problem is knowing how to pronounce 'Ór' ........

"Oh - Are"?

It's pronounced the same as "ore".

The barebones (and free) SI-Config has been able to download SPORTident cards and write a simple CSV download log for years. Of course, SI-Config can't do anything else registration- or results-related. We successfully ripped this log with a combination of manual Excelling and pythoning to generate these results.

I am looking forward to using Ór as the hardware-end of result processing for future rogaines.

True.
However si-config writes a new record for every download. Ór will write one record per card - if you download a card multiple times during an adventure race as the race progresses the same row in the CSV file will be updated. If you use si-config you get multiple records for each card. It's a small difference, but it makes manipulating the results in a spreadsheet much easier, at least for someone with my limited spreadsheet skills.
