Former GB orienteer turned adventure racer Bruce Duncan (brother of Jon Duncan) and his friend & fellow adventure racer Ant Emmet are part way through an epic fundraising effort.
They have already run the Bob Graham Round (65 miles, 42 mountain tops, 27,000ft climb, 24 Hours), & are currently on their way from John O Groats to Lands End (874 miles, 60 hours, 400000 pedal turns) on a tandem with a deadline of the Devises to Westminster canoe race (125 miles, 77 portages, 24 hours) to aim for.
They are raising money for Cancer Research UK - Bruces Mum, Hilary, died from pancreatic cancer - with a target of £25,000.
Their website is http://www.theepictri.com, with more explanation, tracking, photo updates and a facility to donate to the cause.

just under 24 I think, they weren't exactly racing for time, just keeping on schedule

I applaud this effort and my heart goes out to my brothers who are undertaking this epic journey. But, not to take anything away from the wonderful people who do fundraising efforts like this, and if I had Pancreatic Cancer I would be glad to have them in my corner, but the most effective cancer research would be to minimize cancer-causing stuff in the first place. Why try to fix everything after it happens, and not prevent it in the first place?
We dont see enough fundraising efffort in this regard. 'Fundraiser to drive your car less' 'Fundraiser to use less chemicals in your household, garden', etc. Duh.

Some researchers in the field of pancreatic cancer likely focus on what specific chemicals might cause the cancer as well as treating variants with a genetic component

They're nearly there! Nailbiting stuff with the cutoff at teddington lock, but only a few miles to go now. Should be finished in a couple of hours.
Utterly awesome stuff.

They finished just before midnight on Sun 25th, so sat on ground to sounds of Big Ben!

The charity for whom they are raising money, Cancer Research UK, does promote things known to reduce risks of developing cancer eg increasing exercise, reducing pollution, increasing fruit & veg in diet etc. Race For Life has got thousands of women running / jogging / walking 5km or 10km in since about 1998 (that was the first year I did one, but it started a few years earlier, and I've got my Mum & sister on board since)

But even if you do everything recommended, there's still genetics and the unknown causes of cancers.
