I'd just like to point out that I had never done this before and putting me on the blue course was cruel and unusual.

Eventually I found them all though!
Hi-five! (In Borat's voice)

Thanks for posting the results so fast!

Shek--I'm surprised that they put you on the blue course. Whom did you ask about which course you should do?

How curious that the posting message was passed on by PG and not by the esteemed Valerie herself. Was Valerie so pooped by the day's activities that she collapsed immediately after finishing her work, a modern day Phidippides?

Whatever it is, it sure is nice to have results up so quickly. Thanks!

Our crack investigative team has the following brief conversation to report --

Peter, are you on-line?
Yup.
Can you post a link to the reults up on WinSplits? I want to hop in the shower.....

Anyone who has doubts about the serious heavy lifting that Valerie and Sandy (and others) do at the e-punch operation now has proof that their cool, calm exteriors mask a whole lot of work going on.

Thanks, guys, you're great.

Hey Shek - remember
this discussion?

Haha.. yea. I was in a brief email correspondence when I registered online, I never actually chose a course, just commented that I'd like them to pick for me and said I was new.

I liked it, and I'm probably going to do another blue next time I'm out. To step down to something easier will seem off now. Besides, most of the reason I did so poorly wasn't because of control difficulty, it was due to the sloth of the past 3 weeks.

It's good to see someone really jumping in head first, enjoying themselves, and actually wanting to come back for more. ;-)

Shek, one quick word of advice, from someone who jumped up to red a bit too soon - don't fool yourself that your biggest hurdle is running speed. It's not, and it's not by a long shot. That's what I thought until I discovered that I was being beaten (spanked, even) by 60 year olds *walking* the course. Run orange to learn how to orienteer (not necessarily run) fast. There's more to this sport than just "eventually" finding bags in the woods.

That said, congrats on finishing a blue course your first time out. If nothing else, now you've got a good O story to tell to your grandkids someday.

You might have a different experience when you encounter other types of terrain, though. The Pine Barrens are a unique place.

Shek,

I see you are signed up for the Philly marathon relay. Maybe you should consider this http://www.attackpoint.org/eventdetail.jsp/event_8... instead? Running hard on pavement so soon after your injury might not be a good idea, whereas you could benefit from more gentle orienteering practice at a meet which is probably really close to you.

Actually one of the people on the relay team just got deployed, she's military. I found out today and they're scrubbing the race since they only want people who are part of the club to run in it (Fall Line Ski Club). Lucky for me, since I can't even walk up stairs, i was worried about being the one to ruin it. I'll check that out though, thanks.
