https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/fr310update.jspWorks nicely, I just tested it out. Make sure to have it charging while you do the update, it takes a while and will drain your battery to 0 and fail otherwise. (I learned this the hard way, I guess I am lucky that didn't kill it)
WooHoo!!! Thanks for letting us know, Ken.
does this take up more memory having it turned on?
If it is anything like the other models, it not only takes up more track memory, it drains the battery quicker as well.
It should. With this update the writes to the memory of the watch have increased 2 - 3 fold probably. And reading/writing to the flash memory is the probably the most expensive energywise operation on the watch along with the powering of the GPS chip.
I have been running a test of this today, I'll post the results.
In every-second mode, the 310xt drained its battery in 18:22:31 without filling up the memory. it appears to have saved all the track points. For comparison, I remember Valerie tested her battery for something like 22 hours in smart-recording mode.
I did the 610 in 1s mode at the same time, and it stopped recording track points after 6:36:01 and died at 6:50:18.
I didn't use the HR strap in this test, but that would eat a tiny bit more battery/data space.
Thanks, Ken! AP has the best info on just about everything.
My test didn't go as well. It was dead when I got home, and the data was cleared and/or stored in history. It said it was 28854 miles at :24 seconds per mile, but there was no total time in history. There was just one lap in the history, the first one at 6:xx minutes.
