I'm not sure that this is the correct usage of the "Rerun" feature, so somebody can let me know if I screwed up. I can remove my entry if anybody has a problem with it.
Anyway, on May 12 at lunchtime, I went out to Hoyt to rerun last Saturday's green course. I read somewhere that this is a good way to figure out how much time you're spending navigating and making mistakes relative to just running the course. Overall I found it to be an excellent exercise. I still had to use the map for most of the course, but obviously I was much more familiar with the terrain. I found that since I was running much faster and not stopping to examine the map, I got winded much sooner and more often. Especially on the last half of the couse, I found myself walking up some of the hills. I made several different route choices, which again required me to pay close attention to the map. On the long legs, I did a much better job of staying in contact with the map.
Overall, the trails were muddier than Saturday due to recent rains. Fell on my face 15 seconds into my run, twisted an ankle on my way down from control 4 (recovered quickly), and fell on my butt on my shortcut up the muddy slop between 9 and 10.
Doing this exercise makes me want to do more training like this between meets. It would be nice to set up about 30 permanent controls in one of the parks and then make up various courses between the different controls.
