I really enjoyed this. Great fun. And exactly what I need to get faster. I consider the first batch of times I took yesterday as my baseline. I wonder what my improvement will be percentage wise, and how that will compare with you. I know I will not be as fast as you but I wonder if our relative improvement will be the same.

Dude, pumice! Guys don't use loofahs to "exfoliate," they use rocks from volcanoes to "remove dead skin." Raaaghhhhhh!

Or just rub against a tree.

Second the tree. Failing that, sandpaper. Power sander optional.

Go for the loofah. Just pick the right brand.

Well, while I suppose pumice, a power sander, and a cylindrical file would all have some desirable effects (and necessarily increase my masculinity, particularly in combination with "man soap"), the other problem I'm trying to solve is efficient distribution of body wash. I think the power sander probably has the best performance characteristics of the given options, but a loofah is superior still.

That's not a cylindrical file, it's a surform tool.

Body wash? What's wrong with good old soap? Washcloths work, too. Get an older (or cheap) scratchy one. :-)

Real men don't use soap. They just pour lye directly on their skin, which combines with the everpresent motor oil to create soap.

Re: mgb, I think I have a higher percentage of fast twitch muscles than most orienteers. As you might expect, this has been less useful on longer distances; my mile PR predicts that I should run a half 7 minutes faster than I actually did. I am very excited to see how much we improve through interval training. My main focus for the next year in O will be long distance races - 90 minute to two hour races, and much of the running preparation for that will be long, easy runs to build up endurance and whatever body systems are used for long runs.

Maybe we should run some time trials to better quantify our improvement. Want to do a 5k sometime over the next two weeks?

I hadn't read that one. It's perfect.

Ian's is merely 5-in-one.

"and calms your nerves with a homeopathic antidepressant."
That should come with a health warning, as dilution (in the shower) makes it more powerful.

And acj, I thought your link was going to go here... Loofas.

Actually, although I haven't used it in years, when I was young I almost exclusively used Lava soap. Soap with grit in it, or "sand soap" as it was known at my house.

No damn moisturizers in it back then, though. (And I have to say that at the time, I was not educated enough in Romance linguistic roots to recognize the clever play on words in the name.)

(I didn't notice it until you said there was one.)
