Is CSU Park-O #1 a mystery event?
Jan 4, 2012 5:17 AM #
Cristina:
I know nothing about CSU Park-O Mystery Event #1. Neither do the Deciders.

Barbados has been invited to participate. At this time they are focused on making some new maps. Hopefully they can do that and then hold a couple of sprints later in the year. If they do, the sprints will automatically be worth more points, as per rule 8.

I should note that there are currently no sprints scheduled for January or February, yet I am planning to draw a winner for Catching Features each of those two months. I already have Catching Features, so someone needs to hold a sprint or two so that someone else can win.

If we assisted the Barbados Association with a couple of Sprints in early February would anyone come? They have one map in St. Lawrence area and we might be able to pull together another by that time. Oh, yeah.. sending them money might help. Anyone interested in doing a little google base map work if I identified the area? Their google photos are recent and excellent and we have access to some digital map data. There will be a couple of orienteers from Canada and one from Sweden there, at that time. I can send a sample of the digital data.

...and one from Sweden there...

Would that be my old friend Jan by any chance?

jimkim:
yes Leif, it will be Janne .. still inspiring people to orienteer. You should team up again..

How does the scoring work for a mass-start sprint relay? Does everyone on the winning team get max points?
Jan 4, 2012 6:47 PM #
Cristina:
Yes.

Examples: If Ian and Boris win a sprint relay worth 35 points, both earn 35 points.

If J-J and Barb team up and win a sprint relay, J-J receives 35+5 points and Barb earns 35.

However, if Ian and Boris win a sprint relay (35 each), and Barb and J-J come in second, J-J will receive 33 + 5 points and Barb will receive 35 (as the top placing woman).

At least, I think that's how it works in my head. Subject to change up to the time I actually have to implement the scoring, or even after.

I'd better read these rules. I don't know what kind of scoring system it is that always gives me five extra points, but it sounds pretty good to me!

If we don't get some real snow soon, we may have to change our upcoming ROC Ski-O weekend:
[January 14 Sat Ski-O at Harriet Hollister. Parking lot. Start from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m.
January 15 Sun Ski-O at Mendon Ponds Park. Hopkins Point Lodge. Start from 11:30 to 2:00 p.m.]

to a Sprint weekend!

Jim, try contacting the Barbados Orienteering Federation peeps to coordinate with them. I don't know if they already have areas picked out, or mappers, or what. But I'm sure they'd love some help!

Re: Present map from Barbados.

I'm trying to get an ocad version so we can give that to the Barbados Federation plus use it for the sprint event, which it seems, will be happening later this month. We are in discussion with the Barbados group and are planning a local clinic, probably a sprint event and hopefully some new mapping. We'll post the date to the Sprint Series website once confirmed so that everyone can fly down to get their points.

Shopping for some controls tomorrow, in Stockholm, but it seems SOFT is on the move so looking at plan B to get a few mini-controls that we can leave in Barbados.

Jim: Are you in Stockholm - or is Janne doing the shopping?

PS. If you don´t have a contact for the map yet I think Jaroslav Kacmarcik may be the person to contact (jkpwt@hotmail.com). I got the map from St.Lucia from him two years ago and he may have the others too from the Carribean Tour.

Jan's the shopper. thanks for the mapper contact. I'll let you know how it goes.
