And generally speaking, kids run up in sloping terrain.

I've witnessed adults do this a lot as well. In crossing scree slopes they would, if they got off the trail, almost always end up above the trail and never below it.

i find that when in an area you have become familiar with it is much more lickly to make novice mistakes.
This has happend to me in the form that evn though i had a strong feeling i was going off course i though my memory of the area was better to rely on than taking time to look at the map or altering your route
