For me running was good...but I dont know how I could make that mistakes...
www.dusankrnjaic.blogspot.com u can see maps and tracks.
On sprint I was thinking on man who was chasing me 1 min...because I saw him...and that was problem for 1. mistake...and then 2. mistake was because I saw control and I thought like: "that is not my control I went to her really fast" and I was running in circle
On long first control was death for me...and then my brain was out...so I had mistakes on every control (i think).
On middle I had a advice to go slow first part...and I was running slow until 4-5 control and then I dont know how I went to control... I moved finger on 6. control (and I was going to 5.) and then I stopped and I didnt know where am I...and I looked around me and I saw flat forest...and on map wasnt something like that...and I was running in circles and circles and on end I found 4. control and I started again...and until end nothing special..
On relay I had advantage 3 mins infront of bulgaria and I lose that on 3. and 6. control and it was race until end "head to head" on spetatuour control he had 20 sec advantage and I catched him at last part...and on finish...(I was 3. leg so I was running for medal)

Well, first of all, great run to finish on the relay. it must feel good to get a medal and you even made it exciting for everyone !! ;-)

So you know what happenned in the sprint, other competitors can be a distraction.
One strategy is to refocus your brain on the task at hand. This is most easily done by having a phrase to always use in that situalion.
You see another competitor , you say" Look at the compass" or "what is the next control description", or any other refocusing phrase to get your mind back on YOUR run.

Asfor the middle, certainly taking it slow is good advice ,I think especially forthe middle, as mistakes are very costly, and really fast speed, although needed to win, can quickly get you lost, and relocating is time consuming.
One technique to use when you're suddenly lost.Stopand retrace your route ,
In this case if youhadretracedyourroute to the last control, you,may have realized you had just come from 4, not 5, and been able to recover.

Two techniques which are hard to remember when panic strikes, but try to keep saying them to yourself and hopefully they will come to mind when the situation arises again..
