I don't think you need to actually "grow a bear" but some facial hair might help. ;)

Don't forget the handheld water bottle, short shorts and minimalist shoes.

Don't worry, I had all three. What I can't figure out with the handheld water bottles is where everyone stores all their food. I eat like a beast during these long runs and a few gels isn't going to cut it.

Jason Lane basically only drank Spiz for nutrition for all of RAAM- something like 100,000 calories.

Oh sure, go ahead and fix your typo so that I'm the one who looks silly. ;) I'm with you - I don't find the handheld bottles practical or comfortable but I guess that's because I'm accustomed to wearing a pack so I'd rather have the convenience. But as Mrs. Gally has learned, you need to leave your shirt on if you're going to wear a pack!

OK, fixed my typo, but Tiny still needs to grow a bear on his face. I can't imagine not eating, only drinking / gels for long races.

I was referring to Tiny's "bear" typo, not yours!

JohnnyM, the top Salomon Flight Crew runner in Toronto, did the Sulphur Springs 100-miler on water and gels so it works for some people. I'm the complete opposite. Give me grilled cheese sandwiches and salted potatoes any day!

I'm with the food eaters. I'll force a gel down when I know I need an immediate burst but grilled cheese sandwiches and potatoes sound good to me too.
