Discussion: Chasing start clock

I made a chasing start clock program for Big Foot Sprints, but figure it might be useful elsewhere.

Software is on sourceforge and there is a video here.

It requires a startlist in the IOF 3.0 XML format, and is only compiled for Windows at the moment (and then not XP for technical reasons).

Great stuff, looking forward to seeing it in action next month.

Great stuff undy. I'm involved in a chasing start race in a few weeks and we're interested in trying out your clock. I notice it doesn't beep though. Is that functionality you've looked at adding? It's something we're really hoping to have.

A beeping, chasing start clock may not work, what happens if someone starts 3 sec after, and you have a 5 sec count down going

I imagine something like the following for someone starting 3 seconds later:

bip, bip, bip, bip, beeep, bip, bip, beep

Any reason why that wouldn't work?

I've got another program that generates a talking beeping clock and I want to merge the functionality at some point, but this would only work well for regular starts.... at least in our chasing start we have a lot of close starts.

I'll look at an optional beep - it would make the YouTube clip better :-)

Hi Undy, any progress on this project? Even just a single beep when the competitor should go would be very helpful

Haven't worked on it recently - we found it was really good as a call-up clock at a pre-start too. I'll bounce it up my priority list a bit.

I'm struggling to get it working, I'm using OE2010 and tried both a startlist and entry export in xml 3.0, do you use this, or produce your own?

Can you email me an XML 3.0 startlist ?
I tested with startlists from a few different sources, but not OE2010.

OK, fixed version now at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/chasingstartclock/

Now works with IOF XML 3.0 startlist exported from OE2010.

..and now with sound as Fly'n requested.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/chasingstartclock...

You probably need your beep or whatever as a .wav file.

Tried installing the latest version, got the following error:
Countdown2.exe - System error
The program can't start because Qt5Multimedia.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Ooops - sorry, not sure how that one slipped out.

Can you try again ?

Brilliant - thanks for that. I like the idea of a 400 person chasing start.
We finally got to use it on Christmast Eve last year - I like your set-up with the tent and table.

I meant to come over for your QB3, but never got around to it, hope it all went well.

You can also use it as a call-up aide for regular events with a start-list.

Hi Fly'n

How did you generate the xml startlist from the results of your first event of the middle?

We used the clock at the Glasgow Parks championships last weekend. Great!
Thanks to Undy for a couple of tweaks which made it even easier to use. :)
