Florida Orienteering is sometimes considered a backwater of orienteering in the USA. (It's been years since they {we} have held an A meet.
Far from being a backwater FLO has an active nine month schedule with most events having over 100 entries, many of them from high school JROTC units.
Entries are meticulously counted by FLO Technical Director, Bob Putnam. He reports in a recent e-mail to the FLO list promoting the Oct 12th event at Moss Park (Orlando) "Sometime during this event, FLO will have started the 50,000th orienteer. There will be hoopla and cheers and a few door prizes for the lucky person. You won't want to miss it - because YOU may be the lucky winner".
So if you weren't lucky enough to get an entry to the Canadian Nationals and you find yourself looking for something to do on the Columbus Day Weekend make your way to Orlando and be part of the celebration.
