eldersmith:
I just wanted to give a few words of thanks to sherpes and his fine team of volunteers for putting on a really fun event. It was quite interesting terrain on a very acceptable map, course setting that made the selection of a route very challenging, friendly registration process, fine food after the finish, and even weather that made a nice one-day respite from the snow-covered ground and single-digit temperatures that upstate NY has been furnishing in the last few weeks. In advance we weren't quite sure whether a six-hour drive each direction was really going to be an acceptable price to pay for a six-hour event, but attendance turned out to be a really good decision! I am wondering whether it might be possible to get an electronic version of the map in a pdf, png, gif or some such representation so that it would be easy to examine the gps track of our route from my datalogger superimposed on the map in Quickroute.

Sherpes put up a course map here

Michigan had a great time. Last year was one car load, this year two. Next year three?

@eldersmith
what are nightcrawlers called in the daytime?

Capravet:
The Nightcrawlers become Glacial Speed in the daytime, more typically in snogaine events. It was convenient that the hills near Pittsburgh were totally free of snow and we could crawl a little faster (except through the occasional patch of greenbriar)

the electronic version is available at the link above, and if you could draw your routes on it and send it to either me or raccoongaine at gmail dot com, i will post them on the flickr set at

Next year three car loads?

We will have Detroit provide the vehicles, and Pennsylvania provide the petrol.

fine team of volunteers

you're right about that. Even the park rangers came to thank us in a way, for bringing so many out-a-tawners into this park (i think that at the end of the year, when the park manager must make a year-end assessment on utilization, the budget for the following years assigned to each park by the state central office is proportional on past utilization. Soooo.... they are happy to see a big crowd use their park...)
