interesting to follow the training challenge started between "Grant" and "lazydave". its only 2 weeks long ( they are already on the second week ).impressive ..both of them recorded over 10 h of good training.and if you add that Grant is coming back from retiring and lazydave did not put huge numbers before...
now lazydave need your support , he's getting behind.
go Grant go !!

should the training challenge be somehting to make summer interesting where we have a group of orienteers in Australia in a head to head challenge, or a knockout type format challenging each other in training hours for the ultimate training champion by the end of the competition.

it would be interesting as you would nee dto log a lot of hours over consecutive weeks in order to win.
I suppose there could be sponsors and prizes to entice orienteers to compete and be competitive.

what are the thoughts of other attack point memebers?

what about - "Grant vs lazydave" challenge ? did offcially end it ?
as for summer challenge? I thought aussies have winter now. also it might depend on ones goals for the period ( rogaining, general fitness, speed etc..).

In general I think it sounds fun.

But, you might want to be a little careful about injury with a challenge like that. It seems like it would be easy to increase training too fast or to skip rest days that might be more necessary or to value hours of training over quality of training. Just some things to think about...

Yeah seems to be ok now, ran on Wednesday, its all good after some good stretching and manipulation - i wouldnt recommend doing what we did, we were quite lucky i think!
Good fun though

mouse- i think that is a great suggestion. I reckon January is best. More people on holidays to make it interesting- and enough time to get over most overuse injuries.
just counted 89 aussies. should be well over 100 by then. I think start off with a random draw- into groups of 3 or 4 for first week.
That should drop numbers to say 32 for round 2. From then on head to head.
Round 3- 16,
Round 4- 8,
Round 5- 4,
Round 6 - 2 finalists.
Then it's about time to taper for the first NOL round in early March.

Might have to start logging my bike commuting (mind you, there's a fair chance I'll be overseas with work for a reasonable chunk of January).

shall we get started back into 'what counts as training' debate? I think it would need to be running only for this competition - no bushwalking, shopping, stretching etc. You could maybe include riding at 50% but its easier to say just running counts.

I don't log my cycling commutes because I think they're great use when doing other training - but it sure was better than nothing when that was all I did for a fair chunk of last year, when passing out was a greater concern than training... made it much easier to get back into a semi-reasonable training load than starting from not physical activity at all.
Anyways, if you have a comp in January I'll be on holidays, so I won't be commuting (yes - the whole month - yes, I'm a teacher :) )
