Have experimented with various types of garden gloves. There is a pair for any occasion. This weekend wore just one on my right hand while at Boggs Mtn. (Gloves and thumb compasses don't really go together.)

You can always cut the thumb off of a glove. Or as many fingers as you like. Home Depot has a good selection for that kind of experimentation.

one of my skier's father is a surgeon, and he always run with gloves, precisely to protect his hands.
