Norway to bid for WOC in 2010/2011 (Trondhjem)
Yikes,, the maps looked pretty green...
Ah, swamps that run up and down the hills rather than in flat areas. Very fun orienteering. I seem to remember a nice sauna there too. Is anyone from the World Students team in '88 still likely to be up for a WOC team in '10 or '11? That would be impressive. My only bet is Pam :-)
But to respond to MC - I don't actually remember that much green. I do, however, remember the 2km leg on the classic course (both male and female). Bet everyone who ran there remembers that one!!!
World Students (WUOC) was also there in '98. pretty cool terrain, and I don't remember much green either.
Yeah, still wishing I had had the guts to take the long swamp route on that 2 km leg. It was quite nice terrain...I don't remember it as green.
Yes, Norway will bid for the WOC in 2010 or 2011, and Trondheim is the selected location. The sprint events are planned to be inside the 1000 year old city of Trondheim, while the longer events are planned to be at Granåsen (5-8 km southwest of the city). This is the same location as the World Nordic Ski Champs was held in 1997. Key skill will be to run fast in marshes (half open, half grassy, half uphill and downhill, good runnability). Elevation changes are moderate, although there is a big ski jumping hill at Granåsen that may offer some attraction for the course setter (especially the start of the relay). Vewgetation is mostly open with few green areas. I studied 5 years in Trondheim, and the city is THE place for o-students in Norway, and the home of NTHI (NTNUI). The 3 marketing keywords are "spektakulært, bynært og urbant" which should transløate into something like "spectacular, close to the city, and urban". Enjoy your preparations for the WOC or the public races..
yippee, interesting orienteering!!!
