Discussion: Route Gadget "Fit"

I'm trying to load the Canadian champs events into RouteGadget but I'm having difficulty getting the "Fit" function to work in order to get the controls into the correct location on the map.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I know I've had to fiddle around before, but this time I can't get anything even remotely close. What I am doing is:

1. Select “All Controls”
2. Zoom out
3. Press “Fit”
4. A) click on a control, B) click on the map where that control belongs
5. Repeat #4 for another control

After I do this, the two controls I selected aren’t in the specified spots
So I repeat – but each time I repeat the fit gets worse and worse

Sometimes the fine adjust just doesn't work well when you are near the control location and trying to adjust it inside the circle. Instead move the circle a few cm away with fit first and then try again.

Also you need to select points that are far from each other both in x and y direction for best results.

And sometime deleting the event and restarting the process works when the fit adjust just wont move them to the right positions.

Maybe rotation is not zero?

Where do I control the rotation? I'm not sure how to check it

I continue to be astonished by how good Valerie is!
Middle distance RouteGadget is up thanks to her

RG only has a few degrees' worth (or perhaps less than a degree) rotation adjustment capability. You have to be sure your bitmap and your CP coordinates are to the same north.

OK, here is what I have run into. When someone sends me the XML course file exported from OCAD 10, then there is an extra line in the file for each control. The ControlPosition line:
StartPoint
StartPointCode S3 StartPointCode
ControlPosition x="505377.97" y="5551036.00"
MapPosition x="62.44" y="-117.82"
StartPoint

When I edit out this line for each StartPoint, so that the file is the same as OCAD 9 or Condes, then the "fit" issue disappears. Otherwise, it gives me fits and never fits.

Actually Val the files I sent were from the latest version of Condes, so I think that perhaps it is a new version of the IOF XML data (which includes this new line) that is not completely supported by RouteGadget?

That's good to know, AZ. Interested to hear from Jagge on whether I am on the right track or perhaps there is some other adjustment which needs to happen to override the fit issue we have run into with the XML we are using.

Also, slightly off topic -- do some flavors of RouteGadget require Java and some don't? Some I'm able to open up, view, add routes to, etc. with no trouble. Others, it just hangs up without letting me do any of the above, and I'm reasonably sure it's a Java related issue.

Some clubs have gone to the java free version of RouteGadget and some have not.
