Fundraising for the US junior programs. Anyone can donate a portion of proceeds of anything they sell on eBay. Here is the OUSA eBay site.

Item #1 (from Isabel):

I’m not so committed to USA junior orienteering that I’d marry (and nationalize) a top foreign athlete just to boost the team’s overall performance. But if you’re willing to do it, perhaps you would be interested in this dress. Has good flow.

Size: Izzy

Is the model for sale?

(Tash don't read this)

This is actually a fundraising mechanism for all Orienteering USA teams (Senior, Junior, MTBO, Ski, Trail, Deaf and University).

When a person lists an item for sale designating OUSA as the recipient, they can either designate one team for the donated %, or if there is no designation, it can be shared by all Teams.

Wrong!

This was set up by and for the Junior Team.

Greg_L:
No, Guy, read the minutes of the last Board meeting, or speak with Peter Goodwin or Robin Shannonhouse. As a Board member, I can assure you that the Board approved this as a benefit that could be helpful to all Teams.

Someone donating an event can designate which Team the set % can go to, but the concept is applicable to all Teams. We hope all Teams benefit from this.

I just listed Item #3---one foursome at the Stowe, VT country Club. Includes (4) adult greens fees with carts. Expires at the end of NEXT season (2015).

@Greg L----there is no option on the ebay site to choose which team the funds go too. I paid particular attention to this when I did the listing since this was donated to the Junior team. Yes, you can select what % gets donated (in this case 100%) but no option to choose one team over another. From the site, it appears it all goes to USOF. Could there be a separate ebay set up for each team?

Greg_L:
Believe me, that was discussed, but Peter reported that wasn't feasable/practical. As long as each Team knows which listings are associated with them, it will get sorted out by Robin when all those $ roll in. Let's hope that this program is wildly successful and there is lots to track!

As a seller (a person donating an item), just let the Team ESC know you've listed an item (it probably doesn't matter until the item sells t do that; might even be better, since the amount it sells for can be reported at the same time that way). They can then tell Robin.

The current ebay charity description specifically states it is for the Junior team.

Sounds good. Thanks for the clarification.

The system should be pretty simple. Item sells. Seller reports that to the the team that is the beneficiary with the amount. Monthly, the total amount is reported to Robin. Those funds then get transferred.

Relevant board meeting minutes (PDF) -- I think it's mentioned on page 2.

This is all the board meeting minutes PDF says about it (its on page 2, unless I missed something else in the doc?):

"--Approved use of eBay Giving Works for Teams fundraising. Each team will set up their own program. OUSA will not set this up."

She's only 20 years younger than you, tRicky.

What a great idea! I know I have some good stuff laying around that I've been meaning to find more loving homes for, and this is the motivation I needed. *rummaging*

Stellar concept, excellent execution. I will pass the word to other E-Bay sellers that I know, too.

So I get a discount then?

(just jokes)

(it's not actually funny, it's creepy)

tRicky, normally I find your always-serious contributions to every discussion to be helpful and appropriate. Not this time.

Not this time.

Agreed.

I sincerely apologise to all parties, to Izzy and to all Izzy's descendants both past and future, for any offence given. It was a poor joke and I promise I won't do it again.

I also apologise for apparently giving helpful and appropriate discussion in the past - I don't recall that incident. It won't happen again either.

There was a piece on NPR tonight about how just about everything that used to be considered funny isn't funny at all any more. It seemed to be talking mostly about humor from the Civil War era, or silent movies. But I guess it's not 1980 any more, either.

To change the subject, this ability to make donations through eBay is really quite nice. Peter and Barb did a lot of work, persuaded the Board that is was a good thing to do and that it was viable, and the teams may really benefit. I hope that the selling will begin.

I really like that dress :) Descriptions of size ie: Izzy or Small doesn't tell me if it's Tash sized :(

Re: I don't know why anyone takes anything tRicky writes or says so seriously. He's a typical Aussie larrikin.  I wish I could marry him but he's already nationalised so there is no point ;)

(tRicky please don't read this)

tRicky, serious? Never. Funny? Sometimes.

I certainly wouldn't be comfortable with someone joking about buying me after seeing a picture of my body, and I would be livid if someone posted that about my teenaged daughter or son. Just seems like a basic respect issue.

Eish! Sounds like someone has hit a nerve. Very sorry 'bout that but nothing can be done now. He's said sorry and peeps still be like 'grr'. tRicky is right. He'd have no chance in the USA, he'd get shot pretty quickly by the locals (if they could understand his accent).

Hmm, I think this conversation is a good example of the shortcomings of textual communication online. Let's all just buy and sell (non-sentient) items on eBay and move on.
