Tuesday Apr 23 #

7 AM

Running, mostly off road 1:11:53 [2] 14.08 km (5:06 / km) +190m 4:47 / km

Easy lake loop with Sam. Woke up just before the run so was half asleep. Legs a bit better than yesterday, felt quite fine once moving. Stiff foot has felt completely fine since the race which is weird, maybe it'll come back once all the muscles recover.

Road Running 31:15 [2] 6.61 km (4:44 / km) +70m 4:29 / km

Out and back on the railway path. Quads still heavy but easing off ok. Did a few gentle strides on the way back to town over a 2km section and after the first one or two things felt quite smooth. Bumped into Phil and his running group near the end and jogged back with them.

Monday Apr 22 #

Easy jog around part of the lake and back. Quads and glutes heavy but easing off ok.

Along part of the lake then back on a more hilly path under Walla crag. Similar to morning, ok once moving but quite stiff legs.

Sunday Apr 21 #

Short shake out to stretch the legs. Missed doing a jog last night with the road closure into Keswick so the legs felt tense. Worked perfectly loosening them off and then getting a bigger late breakfast.

Hill running race 1:05:30 [5] 15.91 km (4:07 / km) +950m 3:10 / km

Inter counties and Euro team trials. Intense and fast course over Latrigg and Skiddaw little man. Was really good racing head to head with Kris and Joe and the three of us finishing within 20s. I felt strong on the steeper climbs but less good on the undulating soft section before the last little uphill. It didn't help I'd pushed so hard trying to stay with Kris on the first 6km before the steep climb started, once we got over that steep uphill I had to back off and save something for the final push so was losing time.

Took the first steep bit of downhill cautiously then ran the top flatter part strongly, eased off on the steep zig zags and then pushed the last section to the end. I lost time on parts of the descent to the other two and was in third most of the way but managed to claw back some time on the flatter sections and the short sharp uphills. Passed Joe on the bridge over the motorway with 400m to go. Was a really fun and hard race. I just wish the climbs were steeper, there was so much fast uphill around 5-8% gradient.

Easy out and back on the cycle road by the sea plus strides at halfway. Legs feeling ok once moving, foot a wee bit stiff but easing off. Strides were quite good and then helped things move better for the way back.

Friday Apr 19 #

Road Running warm up/down 40:42 [2] 8.75 km (4:39 / km) +120m 4:21 / km

Warm up down to the trail and a bit out and back there plus some gentle strides. Feet feeling stiff to start off and then better. Cool down back home.

Running, mostly off road 20:00 [4] 5.96 km (3:21 / km) +50m 3:13 / km

10 x 1' (1' cruise) out and back on the coast path. Was nice to run faster off road now it's dried out enough. Felt a lot fresher than yesterday and it went fine. Didn't feel the foot and running fast helped get everything moving well.

Easy around Binns. Nice run and good conditions. Feet and calves a lot better than last night but still taking a few minutes to loosen off.

Thursday Apr 18 #

10 AM

Running, mostly off road 1:07:17 [2] 14.19 km (4:44 / km) +200m 4:26 / km

Easy out and back by the coast plus strides on the way back. Feet and calves feeling stiff this morning, some of it maybe from the treatment yesterday. The right foot was moving way better but still could feel some stiffness. Also feeling tired overall. After 20' everything was way better and by the end was good. Strides were decent enough too.

Road Running 31:11 [2] 6.63 km (4:42 / km) +110m 4:21 / km

Coast road out and back. Similar to the morning, ankles and calves stiff but then fine after about 4km and back to normal.
