We put on training tonight at VU St Albans and, since we were a bit early, we had time to run the first 4 gaffled sprintervals head-to-head before the others arrived which was great. Good compact little area and good planning by Will. Mostly fairly pleased with my orienteering.

We finished off with a new idea I came up with:

On the last (forked) sprinterval, Will and I ran them hard. Our maps were in two parts, with a map-flip around 2/3rds through. We weren't allowed to flip until we had punched the last control.

We were shadowed by the athletes, who had maps with only the second side of the map-flip on. The idea was that they would try to observe how we run sprints when we are really going for it - and give us feedback afterwards on things they've learnt or would try to avoid. For instance, I was able to emphasise to Aston how much faster you can run if you are aggresive through corners and passable vegetation when you've properly planned ahead. While doing this, they can also plan ahead the final section of the course (which we can't see yet), and they should treat it like the end of a relay.

Once Will and I reached the map-flip, it was an all-out race to the finish.

I think it worked really well, and was great fun and beneficial for us as well as the others. It was very close but we didn't win. I'd like to do this again sometime.

Nice run down to Studley and along a brilliant new trail south along the Yarra from there with Will. Early start = much more reasonable temperature. 13 degrees at the start, about 22 by the end. Feeling like this will be my last day of illness hopefully.

Had an explore north up Darebin Creek. It was nice but I knew as soon as I set out that this was going to be a grim run. Still v hot and not feeling perky at all. Hopefully this will improve as I become healthier/fitter/slimmer/aclimatised
