Crandalls Park Sprints: Green

dness

1. vacillated at start -- started out left as in sprint B, then went right
2. W to miss worst of swamp then Sish. Left trail probably not at point I thought, and hit the stream too high. Rocky descent to control.
3. Ugh Ugh Ugh. After the fiasco last week on Nobscot's #4, why did I choose to sideslope? Finally made it to the control circle -- wow - all those unmapped boulders! George was just below me, and I looked beyond him to see the control.
4. Ahead of George -- I played it safe by attacking off the trail, meanwhile he spiked it.
5. My turn to spike -- I counted off the features on the line. George strayed left.
6. Straight (meeting George coming the other way)
7. Straight -- a little hesitant in the circle
8. Straight.
9. Just as I was leaving #8, my thumb compass came off. I spent probably a minute looking for it (it traveled several meters), allowing George to catch up. This leg was on sprint B, and this time I liked it. Stayed north of the junk, but avoided the climb and went around. George went further R than me and arrived shortly after.
10. On line to trail, run trail, then leave at bend before control.
11. Down the nose.
12. As I left, no sign of George. N, picking up trail at saddle, then following road, leaving at trail, then around swamp. Went too high to the left, losing some time, seeing George ahead of me (drat!) on the hill.
13. Followed swamp, hesitant in places.
14. Finally nailed this control.
F. Thanks Clint & Jim!
