2007 USOF Convention and Colorado 5-Days: Night-O Red

1. Once I realized this was just above a dry pond (familiar from Day 2, in fact), that made for an east attack.
2. Another attack from a dam.
3. Ran past a water jug, but wasn't certain whcih one it was, so didn't use it to navigate. No problem spotting the control when the ground started to drop away.
4. Slight error here, but recovered quickly. Was a little high and to the left, but I realized that and went directly to the control.
5. Along the fence, and at the corner there was somebody else being snookered by something reflective at the base of the rocks, but I wasn't fooled.
6.
7. Dropped down a little before the control, got a look at the pond, and saw that I had a smidge further to go.
8. Hesitated when I got into the vicinity of where the indistinct trail was supposed to be, but then decided that I shouldn't waste time on it. Went straight, found the trail going WNW, headed N toward the fence, and found the trail going NNW. Perfect. Left it when I hit trees, went in the correct distance, swung my light around, and spotted the big cliff just behind me to the right.
9. Through the deep gully and onto the trail. Didn't want to trust the location of the water for an attack, so I went up through the big meadow to the junk piles, then read contours and cliffs over the top and nailed it.
10.
11.
12. Decided on lower route for a safer attack. I had almost caught Dominie at the fence, and when we reached the rocky slope down, I switched on my high beam. He said something like "You little shit", which motivated me to RUN down through the rocks. Somebody else was paralleling the road while I was making good time running on it. Easy attack, and came up through the cleft just as John Goodwin had arrived from the other side.
13. Just behind John, and he and somebody else came down from the control just as I arrived.
14. John inexplicably veered way to the right while I went on the beeline.
15. At this point I used the lights of the finish as a target, and just reached for whatever physical reserves I had left.
