Race Evaluation

Canadian Orienteering Championships 2008: Hopewell Rocks Sprint 3

boyle

1. Intentionally I went out very slow, almost walking to #1.
2. With the speed I worked up, I soon learned that I could peek at dummy controls and focus on my list of numbers on the control description list. Fortunately my controls were mostly in numerical order.
3.
4. M had a vantage point immediately above this flower-pot control and enjoyed being spectator.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10. I came to #11 before #10 and headed back.
11. Knowing exactly where to go, I was second fastest.
12. On the rocks that hosted #12 we turned the map over to a B map and I watched Robbie go by.
13.
14.
15. I was third fastest in my age group on this leg.
16. This control was up inside a cave between two flower pots. I was worried for my footing coming back down the 25° slope. Photos were taken inside the cave. In fact, trigger cameras and photographers were located all over the beach.
17. I watched Robbie head off toward #19 missing #17 and #18 preventing me from doing same.
18. I ran second fastest on this leg.
19.
20.
21.
22.
23.
F. Climbing the stairs-less slope after finishing was the trickiest part of my race.
