Race Evaluation

QOC Great Falls: Adv - Long

1. P D P R 5 +04:30I was there, just did not see the flag in all the trees. Annoying.
2. P D P R 4 Bit of an S curve around the line, but good reading of terrain
3. P D P R 4 Read the terrain and just launched.
4. P D P R 3 Again, reading the terrain to stay close to the line, came in through 6. Bonus!
5. P D P R 3 Down the spur, running well.
6. P D P R 4 Picking off the ditches, very close to the line. One of my strongest legs.
7. P D P R 5 +00:30Slowed when I felt I was out of touch, off azimuth and in the saplings. Luckily, as I walked to the trail and read the circle, I was able to quickly relocate and was not far off track.
8. P D P R 4 Ran for the fenceline, then read the terrain into the complicated area and looked for the flag. Forced a Gu as I walked up the fenceline.
9. P D P R 4 +01:00Not really a full 1 min error here, just stopped to eat and drink. Did drift a bit left, though, should have been looking for the end of the erosion gully.
10. P D P R 3 +01:15Ran this pretty well, but it looks like the trail route was faster.
11. P D P R 4 Right on the line. Picked up Dave Onkst.
12. P D P R 4 Remembered this one from last year and pushed since I had company. Great split.
13. P D P R 3 +00:30Stayed close to the line, but probably should have dropped to the trail, wasn't much more climb. All the pushing almost got to me, came close to making a parallel error after crossing trail/stream and seeing the cliff, initially placed myself further along than I actually was.
14. P D P R 4 +01:15Came out past the rock formation, but actually thought I was more right and had to relocate. Used ditch under 2, then had to stop to make sense of the hilltops, came in off the rock pile. Jon's route to the right was probably better, easier attack into the control. Picked up the guy in blue / yellow again.
15. P D P R 3 Leveraged the trail, had a good picture on this one. Leading here.
16. P D P R 3 +00:20Got off to right, too low. Thought I saw rock feature. Got passed.
17. P D P R 4 +01:08Too far left, did not understand the terrain on the way in. Got dropped.
18. P D P R 4 +00:20Close to the line, then got sucked off into the big reentrant, and had a hiccup for a moment trying to relocate. Strangely decent split.
19. P D P R 5 +01:15Tried to stay to the line, but pulled left. Turned out to be a pretty smooth attack in, was cautious as I got messed up here last year. Trail was probably faster.
20. P D P R 4 On the line
21. P D P R 3 Just hauled on rough compass, aiming off. Relatively fast split.
22. P D P R 4 +00:30Hauling on this one, reading terrain, until I came to a screeching halt to understand the reentrant to my front. Fixed myself and flew off. Pace would have helped here. Still a decent split.
23. P D P R 4 Good reading of terrain. Short leg and best percentage (86). Didn't even run the whole thing, I was tired.
24. P D P R 4 +00:30Something funny about the map here. Not sure there is a depression up there.
F. P D P R 3 Probably helped that I had spent time working on the finish relays...
