Race Evaluation

US Sprint & UltraLong champs: UltraLong: Green X

dlevine

1. Into woods after crossing stream on NW road; through clearing and using steep bank to stream as handrail. A bit tentative going in, however.
2. Up to trail out of rough open and then contouring across with a slight uphill. Saw the rock pile as I got close.
3. Long slog up northern stream, through yellow on NW shore of pond and then more or less at it. Joined by two others at this moment.
4. Out to road with water by trail. In trail and then at it.
5. Out to road and in at first clearing. Took old logging road (marked as intermittent trail) down the spur. When trail ran out, when down to stream, followed it to junction and then contoured around and in.
6. In a small pack going right at it.
7. Suddenly alone as I crossed both streams and took the logging road most of the way back to the main road. Cut the corner and came out at the pond and went straight in.
8. Out to road and up to water stop. Then in on compass to the fields at the head of the trail. Down the trail until the reentrant got sharp and then cut over.
9. Contoured out to road and water; no problem. Down the spur and then I'll be damned if I can explain what happened, but I overshot it more than once.
10. Up the hill and attacked through the circle heading NE. Saw the rootstock down the hill, but didn't recognize it for what it was and continued my bad nav.
11. Now disgusted, I headed NNW to the trail and took it around to the pond. My left knee was really acting up at this point.
12. Around the pond counter-clockwise and down the trail. Tried to stay in the woods as the footing in the field seemed dubious.
F. Down the hill, knee complaining the whole way.
