Race Evaluation

Western Canadian Orienteering Championships 2005: Manitoba Champs

pfc

1. Went a little too far north, had to backtrack SW on a trail. Debatable whether it lost time, since the other option was W through woods of indeterminate thickness
2. +00:15Hesitation to check map at top of reentrant
3. Nice trail plus an obvious hill for AP
4. +00:20Stayed too far out in the open, also missed that the control was in a white area bordering dark green (bad contrast with yellow) so I was looking for it just outside the tree line instead of just inside.
5. +00:30Crossed over barbed wire fence too soon, had to cross twice more getting to AP. Fast direct 200m run from AP
6. Direct hit over top of spur
7. Dogleg back along 5-6 route, since I knew it was easy. Kept fence 50m to my right and dropped in on 7 perfectly.
8. +00:45Southern route, along open ride w/fence, then around thick woods. I had a momentary problem orienting myself in the clearing on the other side, hesitation at hilltop, ran N to control
9. Could almost see 9 from 8, direct hard run, overtook Darius (I think - it was someone in a maroon MB longsleeve shirt)
10. +00:15Bailed E to clearing with road on the other side, cut NE to road and tookthe easy way in. Bobbled too far N, but caught myself quickly
11. Trail, then ridge and veg bdy led right into it
12. Easy hops from clearing to clearing
13. +00:30Went too far E looking for a way uphill, ended up missing the easy way and thrashing through thick stuff straight up the hill
14. Bailed S to the open field for faster running
F. My best ever run at a non local meet!
