L Arm, Impact wound / trauma

2009-07-28 – 2009-08-23

Grade: 3

Didn't notice at the time, but must have landed heavily to break fall on the track when I caught the hurdle. Probably a sprain, maybe a small fracture, but after a bit of googling seems like a) ice it, b) immobilise it (bought decent support from Boots today) and c) its not out of place, def not a radius fracture, cba to go to hospital as all they'll do is give me a cast and say rest it and come back - will leave it 2 weeks and if its not better after ireland will go and see someone.

Update 17 Aug - came to senses and finally persuaded myself that after three weeks of pain and inability to apply force through this hand I ought to get it checked out. Rang the doc and he freaked, told me I should come in immediately and told me off for not coming in earlier. Went in this morning, & he reckoned it was a piriformis fracture and sent me to A&E for an x-ray. Great - just what I've been trying to avoid for the last three weeks! Went to A&E, somewhat reluctantly - didn't want to wait around all afternoon or come away with some fat cast. But turned out 'everything's fine'. In other words, its not broken. But surely everythings not fine, because it still hurts. lots. At least its not a break though, and apparantly it will get better of its own accord. That was all they had to offer...

Funny how when in hospital for my ankle I was sure I hadn't broken it and it turned out I had. Then was pretty convinced this one felt like boney pain, and it turned out it wasn't... despite every doctor I've spoken to reckoning I'd broken it until the xray results came through :S

Fine doing start at SW intercounties.
