Orienteering long 5:10:32 [3] 21.0 mi (14:47 / mi)
AH, the Hudson Highlander. I had fun the whole way through.
The rain at the beginning made it a bad morning, and morale was low. After getting the first two points in, I felt warmed up and ready to go.
Got stung by a bee going to point 3... Ouch.
Well, I followed to quite a few points, shamefully... oh, I mean, people happened to have the exact same route choices as me. However, at point 13 is pretty much when I broke off from the pack I was in, and narrowed it down to just USMA guys (I've made at least 30 typos so far from how tired this race has made me). Trail run was a nice run, but I didn't recover much because I was trying to keep up with Nick. Last map was nice because it was the last, but boy did those long legs cause quite a tease. Made I pretty big mistake going to point 26.. Instead of cutting though (which I just assumed wasn't going to be possible) I went to a trail that didnt exist, so I freaked out and went that way some more, turned back and went A LONG way around. lost about 15 minutes on that control. Otherwise, my body was poopin out on me near the end, and i just wanted to walk, but I was too close to really not to.
Over all the course gave me that great feeling of satisfaction, I guess thats really the only reason I do this one. Fun times.
2 down, ? to go.
