JWOC sprint selection race in Whitby, 1st
Just before I needed to start warming up Middlesbrough snatched an injury-time winner (again), what more motivation could anyone need? So then it was my turn.
From the start you could see everyone going right from the kite to number 1 and so everyone followed, however it turned out it was far quicker to go left, would have been very costly if everyone else had picked the optimal route but all the 20s went right and I think only a couple of 18s realised. After that had a really good run, bit hesistant on the tricky loop in the middle (5-8) but mostly just lost time from lots of people getting in the way, nearly missing some of the tiny alleyways and of course that very steep and slippy alley down to 7, which of course is the same for everyone. From 8 all the way to the finish was dead running so tried to push but didn't feel quick, clearly quick enough though. Not a very well planned sprint course to be honest, 5 out of 12 legs were good. Just relieved to have taken the win on a course where mistakes would have been very costly.
