World Games - Sprint Relay Leg 1 - 8th on leg, 11th overall!
Went out hard and fast, leading for a bit then in the top 3 at #7. Well executed start to the race using others for micro routechoices. Then came 2 long runnings legs and I just couldn’t close the gap between me and the lead pack when they took off. The rest of the race was clean and uneventful, managed to push hard to the end.
What a fun weekend of racing at the World Games! Thanks to everyone for their hard work.

World Games Middle - 19th!
Pleased with this placing considering the brutal conditions! Had a very solid start to the race, feeling calm and collected. A small hesitation on #3, but then made a parallel error to #7 up the wrong reentrant, only to realize I wasn't going to the top of the hill but rather back to #4. Easy relocation but lost probably about 90s-2mins here.
Bad route to #10 going one re-entrant more before going up which was more extra distance than I realized. This is when things started to hurt a bit.
The rest of the course was pretty clean, but slow and painful up the hills, and I really started to feel the heat. I started feeling off in my stomach, and then didn't see the water in the arena passage (I took the inside corner and it was hiding behind the coaches in the coaching zone on the outside edge - sucks). This is when I started to dry-heave a little, just willing my legs to keep moving. Glad that the nav was good still, at least.
The longest gosh darn finish line of my life, complete with mental swearing as I turned the corner to see the sand we then had to run across to the line (are you F***ing kidding??), and was happy that I didn't yak on live TV.
Overall, a fairly clean race but didn't have the stamina for the hills in this heat. Fun course and forest though!

World Games Sprint - 21st!
Hilly and heat took their toll on my late in the race, but a great start. Leading the race for a while before the fast ladies started.A few poor route choices and general silliness.
Unsure of my northern route to #7, lost some seconds climbing the steep slope, and then some more time lost to #8 again with the route to the north. Definitely lost time going to #11 because I failed to see an opening in an impassable wall, and went way around. At #13 I stopped at the first depression having not really seen that there were 2 of them there. Then it was just painful up and down and up and down until the finish.
Happy with the physical push I gave this but it wasn't quite enough for the top 15 placing I'd set as my goal - lacking that fifth orienteering gear of picking good micro route choices. But I do think I get the best style points for my start chute stair parkour.

WG middle model, taking it easy but going through all the motions.
Nice open woods with minimal stuff to trip you up, high runability, bedsides the big hills. Easy to spot controls from far away, and the contours and hills are well defined. This is gonna be fun!
