Trail running 3:10:00 [3] 24.2 km (7:51 / km) +1314m 6:10 / km
ahr:158 max:175

Howtown fell race in disastrous weather. One hell of a fight against gale winds, horrendous rain and thick fog. First checkpoint at Loadpot Hill. Off from a field by the Outward Bound Centre at Howtown, up along a small goat path, crawling up a steep ascent through brackens, up to the ridge, facing the gale winds, fighting against the wind and horizontal rain while plodding towards the summit, then further up to High Raise against the wind and the rain. Never saw the checkpoint and lost my location after the summit. Didn't know when to turn towards The Knott. Fog was too thick to see anything. Ran too far south together with two blokes and climbed a bit up towards High Street before realizing that we had missed the turning point, back to north with compass, hit the Knott, down to valley, stony path, Satura crags, wind got harder again, struggled to keep up, down to Angle tarn, up to pikes ahead and towards Place Fell, climb up to the summit, further north-east along the fell, zigzag down through brackens, cross the river, towards Hallin Fell, it's the last climb, then same route back to the rode and we're home. I doubted I would make it. Really horrible, scary experience. Relieved that I got home in one peace. Our extra loop to High Street took some 10-15min, hard to estimate how much faster it would have been in good weather. Can't tell but assume it's a lot. easy morning jog. quads better but still not able to run.

Swimming intervals 50:00 [3] 2.5 km (20:00 / km)

triathlon club swim training including intervals and sprints (4x125m (25m moderate + 25m hard + 25m sprint) + 6x25m + 6x50m) and warm up/down. went there with Amy. we were between two ability groups and couldn't decide with which lane to train. first we joined group 3 but realized that we were slightly faster and changed then to group 2 (after the coach had advised us to do so) but they were faster than we and we were just dying when trying to keep up with them. oh my it was hard to try to swim faster than you can...so after a while we were just gasping out of breath and changed back to lane 3. great training anyway and a lot harder than I had thought. 25m sprints were fun but 125m intervals just horrible!

Monday Aug 12, 2013 #

Trail running 3:29:00 [4] 31.1 km (6:43 / km) +1429m 5:28 / km

Brecon Beacons 31km fell race with 1429m ascent and 7 summits! Amazing experience!! Good weather, great route, stunning views!! 3,5h on goat paths, marshes, tussocks, heather and fells. First 4km were the toughest part and happy that I took it quite easy. After first 10k I was alone and had to start to navigate which was pretty challenging with such a poor map (contours not visible and everything else was also pretty dim and diffuse). So I just used a compass and tried to follow hills towards right direction. I felt great all the way until the final climb which literally took all out of me. Extreme pleased to finish just under 3,5 hours. 2nd lady! Results: http://fellrunner.org.uk/results.php?id=2120

OD event Burton Dassett (duathlon training part 2). Great terrain, great course, great weather! Didn't push hard but wanted to keep a good rhythm in orienteering so it became quite tough anyway due to the hills (run each of them up). Good fun anyway, love that place!

Scottish 6 Days 6 Coulmony & Belivat. I was pretty tired and my legs felt empty. Had actually no interest of racing today but forced myself to the start. On my way there some vague race spirits rose somewhere deep inside but I wasn't sure if the connection between my brain and legs would work. Had a relatively big gap to closest contenders, so no need to push hard. Started at race pace but on the way to the second control I realized that I had no power in my legs. It took ages to drag myself through the marshes and tussocks through legs 1-5 before finding some harder ground and being able to run again. After number 5 I found another gear and could keep a good pace all the way to the spectator control (19). At that stage I was second, only 13sec down to leading Julia but on the last loop I did one big mistake (+4min) and a few smaller ones and lost 6min. 11th. But a clear winner of the 6 days! :)

Scottish 6 Days day 4 Loch of Both (Euromeeting). Too stressed in the beginning, missed slightly 1st (30sec), some hesitation on 2nd (20sec) and a small wobble on 3rd (20sec). What a start.. Some difficulties even with 4th (20sec), then 5 and 6 ok, but missed the flag on 7 (20sec). Oh my.. The rest of it went fine but took a bad route choice to the last control and lost another 30sec there. What a mess! 15th.
