ahr:183 max:194

World Cup 1 Manga Pirau, Waikawa Beach. Technically challenging race but I managed to orienteer pretty well all the way to the spectator control (#14) but then I made a few mistakes on the last loop and lost 2min (and six places). I was 12th, 3min down to podium. Still quite pleased with my debut :) Results: http://www.oceania2013.co.nz/results_files/results...

Trail running warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1.5 km (6:40 / km)

after the race we drove down to Wellington and climbed up to Mt Victoria to take a 360 degree look over the city.

Trail running intervals 53:00 [4] 9.5 km (5:35 / km) +50m 5:26 / km

5x3min trail intervals + 5x30sec strides. first three reps were painless but then I could feel the last two reps in the foot. it seems better now and I believe I can run the races but I'm so out of shape. it felt just horrible to try to run fast! after my run and breakfast we drove down to Levin. stopped for picnic by Waitarere beach.

Long run / hike from Whakapapa to Taranaki Falls and Tama Lakes in Tongariro national park (Mordor) with views over Mt Ruapehu (2797m) and Mt Ngauruhoe (2287m) (Mt Doom). great walk with amazing views! up in the mountains it reminded Lake District but lower down it looked like Norway or Lapland.

mountain biking on single trails in Whakarewarewa Forest. wonderful trails & amazing experience! I had no idea trails like that existed! then off to Wai-O-Tapu thermal wonderland to see bubbling mud baths, champagne pool, volcanic craters, geysers, steaming ground and coloured pools. stunning!

Trail running hills 55:00 [3] 8.5 km (6:28 / km) +160m 5:55 / km

amazing morning run along a scenic coastal trail (Kauri Block Walk) that went up and down the hills of the Coromandel coast with stunning views over the sea. 3x80m strides at the end.

Trail running 45:00 [1] 4.5 km (10:00 / km) +100m 9:00 / km

walk to Cathedral Cove. what a beautiful walk and gorgeous place! left the Green House B&B after breakfast, drove the scenic 309 road from the west coast of Coromandel to the east coast checking The Kauri Grove (place filled with Kauri trees) and Waiau Falls on the way. checked also Ha Hei Beach and Hot Water Beach (with people sitting in pits they've dug in the sand filled with 60C water from superheated underground reservoirs generated by volcanos) before drive to Matamata and Hobbiton on the way to Rotorua. what a great day!
