Running warm up/down 21:33 [2] 3.92 km (5:30 / km)
shoes: Orange Adidas O-shoes

Orienteering 20:00 [3] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Orange Adidas O-shoes

Doing part of an open course on the flat section of Lindefallet. My blisters hurt too much to focus properly, so I cut it short. Really, I probably shouldn't have gone out at all, because my left hip was hurting quite a bit as well, but I wanted to get an idea of what the forest was like. So I did the first three controls, then headed back to the assembly area to cheer for OK Linne's two relay teams.

Running warm up/down 14:20 [2] 2.39 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Orange Adidas O-shoes

Running to and around the start area.

Orienteering 41:43 [5] 4.3 km (9:42 / km)
shoes: Orange Adidas O-shoes

EVENT: Rehns BK Middle Distance
COURSE: D21E, 4.28 km, 13 controls
MAP: Flästaheden, 1:10,000, 5m contours
TERRAIN: Open, runnable pine forest. Same as Thursday, but more hilly and tougher running.
MY RUN: I started off surprisingly well and this was the first middle distance where I felt I had flow and focus the entire way. I made a few huge mistakes, but I'm not too bothered because they were all different and, in a way, all new. This was a very fun and fast race!
ANALYSIS: 10:15 lost in mistakes, including two that were 3:45 each.
RESULTS: 51st out of 58 finishers. Winner was Emma Engstrand in 25:26. Full results here:

Running warm up/down 33:00 [2] 3.88 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: Orange Adidas O-shoes

Orienteering 1:22:38 [3] 6.89 km (12:00 / km)
shoes: Orange Adidas O-shoes

Did the first part of the Söderhamns D21E classic course as a technique training session. The area used (Lindefallet) was extremely rocky and my orange fell shoes were completely unsuitable for running fast in this type of terrain, especially given the rainy weather. So I did all of the interesting parts of the course - the technical rocky hillside controls and the long leg - and then ran back to the finish on trails. This was good training for me because I got to experience a completely different type of orienteering and also (since I wasn't racing this) I could take my time exploring the map and terrain.

Note

I taped up my blisters very well today and although it hurt like hell to take the compeed off afterward, I don't think I made them any worse. I did hurt my ankle, however, but luckily it was only a minor sprain.

Running warm up/down 20:11 [2] 3.36 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Orange Adidas O-shoes

Jogging to and around the start area.

Orienteering 1:20:01 [4] 9.8 km (8:10 / km)
shoes: Orange Adidas O-shoes

EVENT: Rehns BK Classic
COURSE: D21E, 9.8 km, 16 controls
MAP: Flästaheden, 1:15, 5m contours
TERRAIN: Lovely open pine forest. Very fast runnability and good visibility.
MY RUN: This was probably the best run of my life so far. I put it all together today - I spiked most of the controls, I always had a plan, I fixed the few mistakes I made very quickly, I ran fast and in the right direction, I chose good routes, I slowed down in the technical areas, I did not let other people or controls distract me. It was great! When I finished, I knew without a doubt that I had done well.
ANALYSIS: By looking at splits and being extremely particular, I figure I made about 4 minutes of mistakes/hesitations/deviations in total, biggest being 1 minute.
RESULTS: 34th out of 40 finishers. Notable times:
1st - Lena Eliasson in 57:14 (Swedish team)
2nd - Emma Engstrand in 58:49 (Swedish team)
3rd - Sofie Johansson in 61:08 (OK Linne)
4th - Anna Mårsell in 63:05 (Swedish team)
10th - Eva Jurenikova in 67:41 (Czech team)
26th - Mari Troeng in 76:38 (OK Linne)
29th - Marie Ohlin in 77:03 (OK Linne)
32nd - Rebecka Österberg in 78:20 (OK Linne)
34th - Kat Orekhova in 80:01 (OK Linne)
36th - Jenny Westerbergh in 82:17 (OK Linne)

Note

Really wanted to do a cool-down jog, but the orienteering had torn open the gash in my left heel again, so I took off my shoes immediately after finishing.

Note
(rest day)

Travel to Uppsala to meet Boris and then almost immediately drive up north to Halsingland.

Running 19:53 [1] 2.15 mi (9:15 / mi)
shoes: Orange Asics

Easy run with Zan around the hostel and along the nearby lake. It was nearing 10 PM but still not completely dark.

Running 56:12 [3] 6.95 mi (8:05 / mi)
ahr:154 max:181 shoes: Nike Pegasus

Run in University Parks with Scott and Helen, including six strides around the roped rectangle after about half an hour. By that point, it was raining so hard that I had to keep my head down to avoid having my contacts washed out. There was a bit of lightning too. It felt awesome to be out running in this weather. I was soaked through to the skin by the time I got back home, but it was refreshing. :)

Strength Training 13:00 [1]

Stretching 6:00 [1]

Hamstrings are a bit tight, but the rest of the body feels great.

Running 9:00 [1] 1.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

A few very easy laps around the track with Emma. I was wearing my walking shoes, which are wider and softer than regular trainers, and my feet felt ok running on the flat!

Strength Training (gym) 25:30 [1]

Hurried work-out because I wanted to run while there was still some daylight.

Running 42:19 [2] 4.98 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: Nike Pegasus

Easy run with Scott around University Parks. I was so happy to be out and running again! I taped up my heels and the blisters felt ok when I was running on the paths. Sadly, it will be a few more days before I can run on uneven ground. Whenever I tried moving onto the grass, the back of my shoe would put pressure on my heel and this hurt.
