Post party run back from the river to the hostel. Nice and quiet at this time of day ;) climb was a bit brutal (tight jeans probably didn't help)

JWOC relay 1st leg. (6th)

Finally a decent JWOC race!

My 1st one in 20 attempts and a nice way to end my jwoc career.

Really enjoyed the terrain when we did training nearby and was probably the only map I actually felt comfortable with.

Aim was to just try hang onto the front group as long as possible and not mess up my gaffles, and it turned out pretty well.

Had the longer gaffle to the 1st control so was a little worried when everyone was turning off before me, but luckily didn't get pulled off. Made up a few places on the long climb and was up front with a group of 10 or so at #5.

Pretty clean all the way through to spectator with only 5-10secs or so lost at a couple controls when I went around the wrong side of the feature or was a bit high/low.

Came through spectator and heard them mentioning SA, so realised I was quite high up (though still didn't realise I was quite so close (5th and about 20secs back).

Messed up the 1st control after the spectator (headed a bit far right) and lost 20-30 secs and a couple places, so ended the leg in 6th and about 45secs back.

Pretty cool to beat all the Scandinavian runners and 1 of the Swiss!

JWOC middle B final.

Mistakes to 2, 5 and 7 cost me over 4min. Decent esides for those though. Winner about 26min.

Some really nice terrain, just not navigating very well in sections.

JWOC middle.

Think I should just become a trail runner...

Nav between controls 2 and 5 was absolutely shocking. lost over 5min on those 3 controls.

Pretty decent from then on, with just a couple of small misses (from 5 to the end I was pretty much the same time as the guys who finished between 5th and 10th), but no chance of an A final after that start.

Finished 9min down on the winner (Joey Hadorn) and 3:30 off A final.

Did at lest win a split, so thats 3 races in a row.

JWOC Long.

Another poor race..

Decent physically compared to others and route choices weren't too bad, but my in circle navigation was shocking...

Struggled a bit with the scale and with judging climb, but main issue was trying to read the technical small contour detail. Would get close to controls and then not have a proper plan into them.

Lost 1:30 between 1, 2 and 3. Then missed the left turn onto the path for 5 and carried on down for a while before realising. lost 3-4min..

Very slow into 6 and then didn't take the best route to #7, but would've been okay if I'd actually hit it fine. Ended up too far left and had to come back (2min)

8 was okay, 9 was rubbish.. Got close to it and then got scared off by the spectator area and didn't go far enough. Messed around for 3min before jonnyq led me into it.

10. Took the middle route choice which wasn't the best, but probably only 30-45 secs slower if I'd actually hit the control okay. Stopped way too early (open area didn't make sense to me). (2min)

11 okay. 12 was rubbish- open area around the road seemed wider than it was mapped and I thought I'd already crossed the path, so went into the earlier forest. (2min)

13-18 were okay. Not great to 15 and missed 18 slightly, but compared to the rest of the course it was decent.(even got a 6th place on the longish leg to 17)

Went straight to 19 and must have missed it by 10m to the left and saw 20 before going back (2min)

20 was good (had seen it before) and managed a 2nd place split.

21 was okay. Took the right hand route choice which doesn't seem to have been the best, but wasn't too slow.

Finish split (most important split of the day)
Nice technical downhill section to start, so suited me well. Managed to get a tie 1st with 32 secs for 240m.

Two 1st place splits (though 1 wasn't an actual control), one 2nd place and one 6th place. So technically the same amount of winning splits as Thomas curriger (2nd) and Simon Hector 4th) (I just had a lot more rest between).

So over 15min of mistakes.. would've been okay with sub 80min in that terrain though.

I'm a complete idiot..

Pretty good race up until #12 (not great on the long leg to #9- took the wrong route and lost 25secs, but was just going with my game plan of picking a simple route and going with it.)

Taking a good route to #13, but as I got near it I suddenly thought I had missed 12 (have no idea why..), so went all the way back to it (losing 1:10). From then on I was just out of it and the map flip and fences at the end messed me up again, so lost another 30secs.

Really gutted about that. Had a lot of potential to do well in this race. Had nearly caught my minute man at #12 and was in 19th at the 1st radio after being 9th after 4 controls.

2min quicker would've put me top 20..
