Rydal Round - 5th

Phil Davies and Gary Greenhow went off from the start and so I settled into a pack a bit behind with Paul Tierney (Winner of the Lakeland 100 last weekend!), Sarah McCormack and a couple of others who I didn't know. Had to walk a bit going up Nab Scar and the group got away. As the gradient eased I started getting into a nice rhythm and passed two guys with still 6 up ahead. Ran well from here onwards to the top but although I felt I was moving strongly I wasn't gaining on those in front. I knew Phil and Gary were away ahead but I could still see the trio of Paul, Sarah and a guy in blue up ahead. Got to the last climb up to Fairfield and gave it a real go. Closed on the guy in 6th and was almost with him at the top.

Went straight past this guy as soon as we hit the technical path along the top and saw Sarah up ahead. Closed her down on the really rocky descent and got up to her on the slog up Dove Crag. Could hear someone behind so as soon as we started going down I shot off. The descent was just as long and tiring as I remember. Tried to run it flat out but ran out steam towards the bottom. A Wharfedale lad came past like I wasn't moving. Nothing I could so about that. Saw the blue vest guy just in front and so worked on closing him in. We went a bit wrong going off one of the many short sharp descents and another guy came past. Closed him down and just about held him off to the finish.

Not as fit as I thought I was but can't complain. Felt good out there, no where near as fit as last summer though. Really fun race and clear blue skies all the way, can't beat it!
