Roller derby race 22:00 intensity: (2:00 @2) + (15:00 @3) + (3:00 @4) + (2:00 @5)

Home teams game! (Scrimmage within our league)
Jolly Roger Rollers (my team) vs. Mariana Wenches
119-153 (sucks to lose, but we played well!)
7 players each team (half a roster), so they cut the players to be 3 blockers and one jammer each team instead of 4+1 (makes it easier for jammers!)

I wish I had my HR monitor chest strap bc I played a TON! And I wanted to see what it looked like in the data and over the course of the game and stuff.

Good: Had good control when I was going fast and trying to go by the sneaky blockers in the front. Only 2 penalties, which I think is really good for how much I played. Watched for my team's offense, good at reading and going the way they were clearing.

Bad: The jam I got a jammer penalty on turned into an 18-point power jam for the other team. :((( Need to avoid!!!! There was also one jam I called off too slowly and the other jammer got some points.

Game stats:
* Jammed 19/30 jams (not typical for derby; usually there are 3-jammer rotations, so jamming ~1/3 of the time!!!)
* Blocked 1/30 jams
* As a jammer I had a positive point differential (+1)! Not sure if that's ever happened for me before, but pretty sure it hasn't happened when I've jammed so many jams, and definitely not also in a losing game
* Got lead jammer 47% of the time
* 2 penalties (one jamming, one blocking, both cuts I didn't see happen/weren't on my radar)
* In the second half, I jammed 12/16 jams (once 4 in a row, once 3 in a row); point differential was +11 for 2nd half, but that includes a 20-point power jam (but also lots of jams where I was down lots of blockers)
* Pretty sure I got lead one jam where I had 1 blocker and the other team had 3!!! Exciting!!!

Note

Note from league meeting: I MADE THE A TEAM FOR ROLLER DERBY!!! EXCITING!!!

Note

Other note: will back-log roller derby at some point, but basically I've been doing Monday/Thursday practices with the exception of last thursday, plus the occasional (short) evening jog.

Dropping in with ABQ roller derby! Had a major hiking (/altitude?) hangover from the day before, so was difficult to motivate myself to get out the door. But was super fun, met some people, and got to grab brunch with them after! The one coaching that day randomly knew someone I met at a Harry Potter scrimmage last year in AZ and another ref I know. Small world!

Also got to practice 2-footed jumps over short disc cones different distances apart, and I got much more confident than I thought I would!!!

Roller derby 5:00 [4]

GOT A SOUVENIR 5-MIN LAP TEST!!!! Super fun!!!! Did 29.95, on an outdoor surface with at least 2 big cracks in it. (I've been doing 32 on our nice indoor wood floor, at sea level.) Not bad!!!

Note from evening: had felt fine during hiking/derby, but was pretty nauseous/didn't have a great appetite Saturday evening onward, then after I got home to SD and was going to bed, had a ginormous coughing fit with lots of junk in my lungs when I was laying down (no other indication I was sick!) :/ One day later went away, but felt lucky we had league meeting tonight (Monday) instead of practice!

Hiking in ABQ! Visiting a mobile gaming friend from SD who's there to do boxing and apparently knows all the cool hikes too.

According to Strava, my memory, and my geo-tagged photos, started at ~1860m and peaked at ~2490m. No wonder I was feeling the altitude! I guess I know in my head NM's at altitude, but it just looks so flat that I'm never thinking about it like I am in CO or WY. Tried to run up the first hill and realized quickly that it was a mistake :P

Was a relatively flat ridge hike in places, with some steep bits at the beginning and end. (And cacti to avoid!)

Was more drained than I thought after this, maybe bc it got cold towards the end.
