A bit hesitant to #1.
Direct to #2 - very close to #1 from two years ago.
Got confused about which roads were mapped through the town on the way to #3.

Fine through to #8, except for momentarily straying too close to out of bounds. Should have stayed high and on the tracks to #8.

Pushed hard on the 2.4km leg to #9. I’ll be interested to see how I compared with others on that leg.

Pretty easy to #12 although by #11 a blister was developing and slowing me down.

I got #13 but I had a bit of trouble reading the map here.

Messed up #14. I must have come off the road bend too soon. Spent an age searching too high. Finally bailed to the corner of the campground and followed creeks from there. Saw the tunnel used as a control a couple of years ago.

Clean enough for the remainder, if a little hesitant.

Ok. So now I've seen the splits:

On the long leg I was only 7% slower than the fastest, so I seem to be making progress on running speed. But Winsplits records me as making a series of errors at 12, 13,14,15 and 16, which were a series of short technical legs. Clearly others are getting away from me, on what I usually think of as my strong point.

Maybe it's just rustiness on technical orienteering. No time to fix things for Easter though.

A bit disappointing. I ran really well on this map two years ago.

This time it just wasn't quite as obvious the whole way around, and I blew #5 badly. I lost about 4-5 minutes there. I took a bad route choice (slighlty left of straight, through goldmining and green), executed it badly (got too far off to the left, as I sought to avoid mining pits and green, and then completely failed to read my way down through the rough open into the control. I should have gone right, taken the tracks with an easy close attackpoint.

Still, I had a few good splits, and I was the fastest for my age on the finish chute.

It's good to be orienteering again.

As I was going past the library cafe on my way back to work, a lorikeet flew into a window. Happily it was ok.
