Orienteering race (Craig a Barns) 1:55:40 [4] ***** 10.34 km (11:11 / km) +570m 8:46 / km
spiked:13/21c shoes: Adidas Swoop 2

After the diabolical shambles that was yesterday I tried an entirely different approach; I tried running far slower than yesterday making sure that i always knew where i was, this turned out to be a good move as the course was far more technically challenging and so more people made more costly mistakes. Although didn't spike very many of the controls at all, time wasted was relatively low (compared to Richard). #3 poor bearing from #2. #4 poor bearing from attack point. #5 attack point too far away. #8 didn't go to attack point. #9 didn't go to attack point. #15 poor route choice (didn't see the path) and poor bearing from attack point. #17 didn't use attack point. #20 poor route choice. So basically, choose attack point, use attackpoint, take a good bearing from attack point!
Why is it that looking back that seems so obvious! Day 3 = Below average (8.1km 475m) (C:90:48/G:99:49/S:119:47)

Orienteering (Trail-O) 1:05:00 [3] **** 1.8 km (36:07 / km)

Fiddlers and Bishops Paths. This was my first Trail-O and only did it because Nick Barrable came over to the car and persuaded us and i'm pleased he did! I wasn't taking it particularly seriously, but hey i ended up coming joint 12th/64 :D

Orienteering race (Dunalastair) 1:04:46 [4] **** 7.01 km (9:14 / km) +215m 8:00 / km
spiked:13/20c shoes: Inov Mudroc 290

#1 was great, and then the race collapsed again, took a solid bearing, but didn't follow it and went a good 80degrees off my bearing!? No idea why, fortunately I found #3 so only 2 mins were wasted. #3 was good as i'd been there before, then on #4 i repeated the same error as #2: good bearing, didn't follow it and went 45degrees in the wrong direction! relocated 3.5mins later. 5 same issue. 6 well... some 10 mins went down the drain here, happy with my route choice, but was put off by this guy i was running with at the time, never got to my attack point as i went into the wrong depression. as soon as i left my "attack point" i knew something was wrong but didn't go back to my last known place, instead continued north to reach the fence. I relocated of a crossing point that wasn't on my map (surely this could be worth a complaint?) and so my bearing took me nowhere! Walked around a little then made my way back to the fence. Decided to go to the fence corner and take a bearing from there, which is where i found the marked crossing point, took a bearing and hey presto found the control straight away! Good solid run from then on! Day 2 = Fail (C; 44:27/ G: 47:34/ S: 57:05/ B: 76:06) (5.1km 230m) (215)

Event: JK 2012

1 PM

Orienteering race (Livingston Almondvale) 23:38 [4] **** 4.42 km (5:21 / km) +36m 5:08 / km
spiked:22/26c shoes: Inov Mudroc 290

Arrived in good time for a warm up on the park, and was a little worried by how few people were wearing vests but nevertheless i started ready and rearing to go! Wasn't going at 100% as i didn't particularly want to run headlong into someone coming round the corner! fist mistake at #5 when i wasn't sure upon the best route there, in the end i ran across the oob road along with many others! Then the biggy, leg 10-11, i ventured via 14 and 15 ruining my entire run by wasting 2mins. This was cause because the connector lines from 9-10 and 14-15 were in a very similar plane and looked like they connected up. Day 1 = Fail (Gold = 21:36 Silver = 25:56, 2.7km 30m)
