Walking 1:00:00 [1] 5.0 km (12:00 / km)

4WD to the top of Mt Lewis. Walked out and back along an overgrown track at the top trying to find a nice lookout or swimming hole but never did. Planned to only go a few minutes but kept adding 5mins hoping there would be a nice view around the next corner. Glimpses of nice views but it was mostly thick rainforest as we were going along a wide ridge line.

Running 5:00:00 [3] 42.9 km (7:00 / km) +560m 6:34 / km
shoes: New Balance M870v3

Solo long training run along Black Mountain Rd from Kuranda to my brothers new place at Julatten. Got the early flight up to Cairns and Pete gave me a lift from the airport up the hill to the start at Kuranda. A pleasant 22 degrees, 10 degrees cooler than last time I ran here in Jan ’14…and much less humid. Some light showers at times but kept pretty dry though the thick rainforest canopy.

Had a 10min break around halfway near Mona Mona and another unplanned 5min stop shortly after - waiting 2m cassowary to clear from the road ahead. Kept my distance as its claws are deadly. Carried 3L pack but only drank about 1L and had 2 electrolyte tablets & muesli bars

Still not 100% over the flu so took it easy most of the way and walked some of the muddy sections towards the end. Thankfully didn’t need to do the quad/knee killing plunge down the Bump track towards Port Douglas. A dip in the river on my brother’s property was great for muscle recovery.

Squash 45:00 [5]
(sick)

Good 3-1 win over in-form EM (3-1). Cold is dragging on but felt much better than last week. Ate well during the day so had the energy to play my usual game of long punishing rallies.
